For more than 25 years of “Companionship and Development”, VFC and Syngenta have remained closely connected with Vietnamese agriculture and farmers through numerous partnership programs to promptly transfer scientific and technical advances and the most modern, effective solutions. In the context of an integrating agriculture sector, with increasingly dynamic markets and farmers who are more proactive in production, the shift from rice to higher-value crops such as fruit trees in recent years clearly reflects this trend. However, spontaneous and trend-driven planting has exposed many risks for farmers due to lack of knowledge, experience and sustainable cultivation solutions. Therefore, VFC and Syngenta Vietnam initiated the “Sustainable Connections” program, with the participation and support of SOFRI and WASI, to contribute their efforts towards developing sustainable production of fruit trees, coffee and pepper – commodities for which Viet Nam is renowned.

The “Sustainable Connections” program will be implemented over four years, from 2021 to 2023. Under this program, VFC and Syngenta will develop 50 sustainable cultivation models for key fruit crops (mango, dragon fruit, durian and citrus) in major fruit-growing provinces such as Tien Giang, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Long An, Tien Giang, An Giang, Dong Thap, Son La, Hau Giang, Vinh Long… and for pepper and coffee in main production areas in the Central Highlands such as Lam Dong, Binh Phuoc, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Binh Phuoc.

In their technical advisory role, scientists from SOFRI and WASI will develop production protocols incorporating a comprehensive set of modern solutions, to be applied alongside the core solutions of VFC and Syngenta for pest and disease management at each crop growth stage, oriented toward safety and sustainability.
Meanwhile, technical staff from VFC and Syngenta will guide farmers on pest management procedures and principles for the safe, effective use of plant protection products, helping to maximize crop growth and yield, enhance product quality, and comply with food safety and hygiene requirements.
These pioneering models will serve as satellite training sites for farmers, from which the practices can be scaled out to other localities so that more growers can access advanced cultivation protocols, particularly through communication channels of Dong Thap and Lam Dong Television, representing two distinct ecological regions.
