14 years of dedication to VFC

Born and raised in the Mekong Delta, closely attached to the fields from a young age and passionate about agriculture, Mr. Nguyễn Phước Tâm (born in 1982), currently Director of the Agrochemical Division of Vietnam Fumigation Joint Stock Company (VFC), deeply understands the hardships of farmers. With the desire to support his parents and farmers, while pursuing his passion, Mr. Tâm has been attached to VFC for 14 years, through all stages, and has always been a trusted companion of the farming community.

Boldly pursuing his passion

In 2006, after graduating from university, he started working for a bank in Ho Chi Minh City. However, feeling bored, lacking enthusiasm for the job, and always yearning for the fields, wanting to live closer to his family and return to rural life, in 2010 Mr. Nguyễn Phước Tâm decided to change careers and chose a job related to agriculture.

Mr. Tâm shared: “After a short period working in the banking sector, I realized I had no passion for this profession, no excitement and no real opportunity to contribute. So I told myself to return to my hometown, live near my family, stay close to the fields and do something meaningful for my parents and the local farmers. At that time, the agrochemical industry was developing strongly and suited me well, so I decided to change my career path.”

He started working at VFC in 2010 as a sales and marketing staff member in two small districts of An Giang Province, Phú Tân and Chợ Mới, where he faced numerous difficulties. “Back then, I rode my Honda motorbike to visit dealers to introduce products, present company policies and invite them to cooperate. I encountered many challenges. Firstly, I lacked professional knowledge about crop protection products; secondly, the working environment required extensive travel; and thirdly, when approaching farmers, one must have sufficient understanding to introduce and advise them on the company’s products,” Mr. Tâm recalled.

To overcome these challenges, he made tremendous efforts: learning from experienced seniors, diligently visiting many dealers, listening carefully to farmers’ feedback, and, above all, constantly renewing himself and adapting to every situation.

Over time, having the opportunity to work in line with his passion, to contribute in a vibrant industry and to interact with many people, Mr. Tâm grew increasingly attached to VFC and has now been in the agrochemical profession for 14 years. Having held various positions, he is currently Director of VFC’s Agrochemical Division, yet he continues to stay close to the field and is eager to keep learning, with the desire to help the company grow stronger and to bring high-quality, economically effective products to farmers.

Proud to be a “connecting bridge” generation at VFC

According to Mr. Tâm, the agrochemical sector is currently facing significant challenges due to increased competition. As a domestic company with nearly 50 years of cultural and operational heritage, VFC is also under considerable pressure. This context requires VFC to constantly innovate, be creative, and strengthen its human resources to meet the demands of the new competitive landscape. Under the guidance and leadership of the management, VFC continuously invests in, recruits, and trains personnel with strong expertise and dedication to the profession.

In the near future, VFC will organize training programs for young staff to equip them with the best preparation for fieldwork. In particular, VFC places strong emphasis on building robust, sustainable and truly stable distribution channels. The 50-year milestone is a major turning point for VFC, and as one of the “connecting bricks” in this phase, inheriting and promoting both tradition and modernity, Mr. Tâm feels extremely proud and honored to contribute his efforts to this journey.

At the same time, concerns and pressures remain regarding how to continue developing the company in a market that is constantly changing. This requires continuous exploration and providing sound, appropriate recommendations to management in order to deliver practical benefits and high-quality, effective products at reasonable prices for farmers.

“The era of digital technology requires the company to move forward, and each individual must also change to adapt to new technologies and to the transformation of our distributors. Previously, they needed us to directly present policies and products so they could sell, but now we leverage technology to stay connected. Our approach to farmers has also changed, so we must prepare our knowledge, continuously upgrade ourselves, and be more dynamic and creative to respond to market changes,” Mr. Tâm shared.

The journey from a field position to his current managerial role has been a process of tireless effort and perseverance. Mr. Tâm’s advice to the younger generation is that, in any field, one must have passion, as it is the driving force to strive toward. Today’s agricultural sector in general, and VFC’s crop protection segment in particular, also requires genuine passion. When you are truly passionate about your work and dedicate your best to your profession, you will continue to grow, and your position will naturally advance.

Looking back on his dynamic journey and the development plans ahead, Mr. Tâm confided: “I always cherish and am deeply grateful to the seniors who built a strong, resilient and united VFC. I am proud to be part of VFC. As a member of the ‘connecting’ generation, I am committed to upholding and inheriting the traditions passed down by our predecessors, while leveraging the energy and knowledge of youth and dedicating my humble efforts to maintaining VFC’s leading position.”
